What is Blackjack?

Blackjack, more commonly known as 21, is where the players aim to beat the dealer, and they aren’t competing against each other. The game’s objective is to get 21 points or closer to 21 than the dealer to win. If a player plays a hand with over 21, it’s a bust, and they’ve lost the game.

What are the values of each card?

Face Value

Cards 2 to 10 are worth their face value, and this means a card with 2 is two points, and a card with 8 is eight points, so on.

10 Points

A Jack (J), Queen (Q) and King (K) are each worth 10 points.

1 or 11 Points

An ace is either 1 or 11 points.

How to Play Blackjack?

Place a bet

Each player places a bet; the bet doesn’t have to be the same as other players. The dealer does not establish a bet.

The dealer deals cards

After the bet is placed, the dealer gives one card to each player facing upwards, and every player can see each other’s cards. The dealer then gives the players a second card, also facing upwards. However, the dealer gives themselves a second card facing down.

Instant 21

If you have 21 following the initial deal of cards, the dealer will give you two and a half times your original bet and you’ve won that game. Wait until the next one.

Under 21

If your cards total under 21 and you’d like the dealer to give you another one, say hit or tap the table. This tells the dealer to give you another card. There’s no limit to the number of cards, but if you’ve got a hand with 22 or more, you’re bust, and the dealer takes your bet. However, if you don’t want any more cards, say stick or wave your hand over the table near your cards.

Dealer Flips Last Card

Once the dealer has gone around the table and every player has played their cards as they wish, the dealer will show their last card (which was facing down). If it’s 16 or under, they take another card, but if it’s 17 and over, they stick with the cards. If the dealer goes bust, every player still in the game gets twice their bet. However, if the dealer doesn’t bust, then only players with a hand higher than their dealer get twice their bet. The others lose.
